jacks or better video poker

jacks or better poker is very similar to regular poker games. The ranking of the winning hands are the same and like in conventional poker games, the objective is to make the best possible winning hand. However, the difference is that you know how much your payout will be for every winning hand.

Most video poker games follow the same basic strategy. jacks or better video poker is no different, either. You will be dealt 5 cards by the machine and you can choose to either keep or discard any of these cards. When you have discarded a few cards and decided which ones to keep, you would have to hit the ‘hold’ button. This is followed by hitting the ‘draw’ button. After the draw, your discarded cards will be replaced and you will be given new cards. If the new hand that you have made is a winning one, you will be paid out. The payout is typically displayed on the video screen and based on the hand and the type of machine you are playing with, the payouts will vary.

This hand is followed in ranking by the Straight Flush, where you would need 5 cards of the same suit in sequence. Four of a kind hands come next and these hands will consist of four cards of the same rank. If there is a tie, the higher ranked hand is the winner. Full Houses comprise three cards of the same kind and another two of the same kind e.g. 8 8 8 5 5. A Flush is a hand where all cards are of the same suit. Straights consist of five cards in their order of ranking. They can be from different suits. Aces can substitute as either High cards or low cards. Three of a kind hands consist of three cards of any rank, while the remaining cards are not a pair. Two Pairs should have two similar pairs and one different card. Pairs have one like pair along with three different cards. High cards are usually those that do not belong to these categories. Winners are decided by finding out who is holding the highest ranked card.
